Crime Just Part of American History. – RedState

You have to give Representative Jamie Raskin (D-MD) credit for being consistent. Consistently dumb, consistently awkward, consistently clueless, and consistently giving in to bad instincts. It’s as though he went to Home Depot, proceeded to the garden tools section, and stepped on every rake they had in inventory.

Case in point: Appearing on CNN, Rep. Raskin denounced President Trump’s ongoing crime crackdowns, while claiming that crime “always has been part of our history.” Well, so has cannibalism, but we still lock up people like Alfred Packer. Here, check it out:

Rep. Raskin said:

He’s trying to militarize the society and intimidate his political opponents. The whole idea of picking cities based on their partisan leadership is absurd. I mean, there are lots of Republican cities and towns struggling with crime. Everybody is, across the country. Always, crime has always been part of our history. And yet crime is down, in D.C. for example. It’s at a 30-year low, it’s down on Baltimore, it’s down in Chicago, but the point is that in our system of federalism, the different branches of government, different departments of government prefer to work together. If Donald Trump thinks he’s got some great ideas, for Chicago, or Miami, or Houston, Texas, or whatever, he should call a summit to the White House and say, “Hey, here’s some ideas where the feds can work together in states and localities. Not have a series of rolling National Guard invasions of people’s cities.

Let’s look at a couple of those high points. For one thing, the president isn’t picking cities based on their partisan leadership. In fact, outside of the District of Columbia and one brief deployment in Los Angeles, he hasn’t done anything at all in any other places, save to talk about them. But he’s talking about Democrat-run cities because they are, almost without exception, where the worst crime rates are.

As for crime rates being low, we’ve seen how suspect the District’s crime reporting appears to be, and some American cities are not reporting crime rates at all

And, finally, the District – the only place at present where President Trump’s efforts are underway – is a federal enclave. It’s not like any other major metropolitan area, and the president’s tactics are working there.

Foot, meet rake.

But, you know, it’s the whole comment about “crime has always been part of our history” that really rankles. Yes, crime has been part of our history, along with slavery, child labor, and not allowing women to vote. We changed those things. Why? Because they were bad. And crime is bad. This comment by Rep. Raskin reveals a breadth and depth of cluelessness that could be measured in parsecs.

As is the case with so many of the Democratic Party’s brain trust (hah), Jamie Raskin is utterly reliable in one sense. Every time he opens his mouth, something dumb comes out. I’d ask Marylanders just what the heck is up with this guy getting re-elected, but… Lisa Murkowski, so, yeah.

As luck would have it, I found a leaked video clip of Rep. Raskin’s next public appearance. Enjoy.
