On the heels of CNN calling two suspected Islamic terrorists accused of throwing bombs at anti-Muslim protesters in New York City “Pennsylvania teenagers,” one of its anchors went on the air to wrongly say the target of the attack was New York City’s Muslim mayor, Zohran Mamdani.
CNN’s Abby Phillip stated incorrectly on Tuesday: “Two Republicans say Muslims don’t belong here after an attempted terror attack against New York’s Mayor Zohran Mamdani. And the House Speaker Mike Johnson says nothing really to condemn those comments.”

With Phillip getting the target of the attack completely incorrect, ferocious reaction has been flooding in.
“CNN claims the attempted bombing in NYC was directed at Mamdani,” stated LibsofTikTok. “It was literally two ISIS Islamists who shouted ‘Allahu Akbar’ and threw the bombs at anti-Mamdani protesters. This attempt to rewrite history is INSANE.”
“This just can’t be a simple mistake,” said author Mary Katherine Ham. “This broadcast is days after the attack and if you’re a newscaster, you have willfully misinformed yourself and then your viewers.”
Rich Lowry, editor of the National Review, said: “To follow the news for a living and say this days later – when your own news organization has already been embroiled in a controversy over the story! – is pretty incredible.”
Former U.S. Rep. Jason Chaffetz, R-Utah, told Shannon Bream of Fox News on Wednesday: “These are terrorists who meant to kill and maim people. That somehow got lost in the headlines along the way.”
“The gyrations that these outlets go to support and to coddle and to smooth out those that want to cause mayhem in our country to actually engage in terrorist attacks? The American people are just fed up with this. This is why they’re so unbelievable. Nobody believes these outlets anymore.”
In an op-ed in the Washington Examiner titled, “When ‘Islamophobia’ becomes a license to lie,” David Harsanyi writes: “Journalism’s core mission is to report and synthesize events to tell people the truth in clear language … This isn’t merely bias, it’s anti-journalism – reporting that literally leads the reader away from the truth.”

Wednesday morning, Phillip took to X to correct her blatant error, indicating: “I want to correct something I said last night. The bombs thrown in New York City over the weekend by ISIS inspired attackers was thrown into a crowd of anti-Muslim protestors and not specifically targeted at Mayor Mamdani. That wording was inaccurate and I didn’t catch it ahead of time. I apologize for the error.”
As WorldNetDaily reported Tuesday, CNN was already under fire for writing online: “”Two Pennsylvania teenagers crossed into New York City Saturday morning for what could’ve been a normal day enjoying the city during abnormally warm weather. But in less than an hour, their lives would drastically change as the pair would be arrested for throwing homemade bombs during an anti-Muslim protest outside of Mayor Zohran Mamdani’s home.”
