Democrats are infamously second to none in throwing temper tantrums – and much worse – when they don’t get what they want. That has certainly been the case after the recent wave of bad news for them in the redistricting wars, including the Supreme Court’s decision in Louisiana v. Callais, which ruled that congressional redistricting based solely on race is unconstitutional.
But while their unhinged responses to what followed in red state legislatures were certainly… special, what we’ve seen since the Virginia Supreme Court (SCOVA) ruling that effectively nuked their gerrymander referendum has been something we shouldn’t look away from for much more important reasons.
As RedState reported, the SCOVA ruled last Friday that the process Democrats in the General Assembly used to put the referendum on the ballot violated Virginia’s Constitution, dashing the Dems’ hopes and dreams of using a 10-1 D/R congressional map in the 2026 midterms. As we also documented, the reactions to the ruling were absolutely nuts – and dangerous – with Democrats and their media allies spouting the types of lies that can (and have quite likely already) put targets on the backs of the justices.

My colleague Bonchie wrote a piece soon after with the headline “The Crash Out Over the VA Redistricting Ruling Commences, and It’s Only Going to Get Worse.” In it, he observed that “Democrats have a choice. They can accept that they don’t get to do illegal things and stack courts that rule against them, or they can tear the country apart, and I don’t say that lightly.”
Sadly, his prediction came true, because Democrats have actually gotten much worse in the days since the SCOVA ruling was handed down. As evidence, look at one of their most revered icons: Democrat so-called “super-lawyer” Marc Elias, who, in the eyes of conservatives, practically wrote the handbook on how to “legally” manipulate election law and steal an election if you’re a Democrat.
Like many Democrats, the Trump Derangement Syndrome-afflicted Elias was incensed over what happened last Friday, so much so that many accused him of advocating for overthrowing Virginia’s government with a tweet he posted Tuesday:
VA Const.
“whenever any government shall be found inadequate or contrary to these purposes, a majority of the community hath an indubitable, inalienable, and indefeasible right to reform, alter, or abolish it, in such manner as shall be judged most conducive to the public weal.” pic.twitter.com/JRKMRqMQzF

As one might imagine, that got people talking:
Like, he is ACTUALLY advocating that Virginians invoke the appeal to heaven and overthrow/abolish their government because the VA Supreme Court wouldn’t let them break the law.
Truly shocking, even for him.

Elias has been asked to elaborate on what he meant, but he has refused to answer the question, which, in my opinion, says it all. But he did find the time to make light of the concerns his critics had over his remarks, declaring that he was just simply quoting the Virginia Constitution, so what’s the big deal?
I quoted the Virginia Constitution and Republicans are losing their minds.🤯
Jonathan Turley suggested I am a “radical” and “Jacobian” for literally quoting the Virginia Constitution’s Bill of Rights.😂 https://t.co/7xSQuCehzJ

I know you like to pretend that you’re stupid, but surely you’re not so stupid as to think that Mason was telling you to do an insurrection if you failed to push through a gerrymander in an unconstitutional manner.

As history has repeatedly shown us, however, Turley, the esteemed George Washington University law school professor, absolutely has Elias’ number, which was more than obvious in a stinging rebuke he wrote of not just Elias’ original tweet but Elias himself:
It is another example of the “by any means necessary” culture of the left today. There is no institution or value that is sacred. This is why I recently wrote about the rise of “the new Jacobins” in my book Rage and the Republic, lawyers and law professors rationalizing the trashing of the Constitution and our institutions to achieve their political goals.
Elias has long been controversial for his tactics.
It was Elias who was the general counsel to the Clinton presidential campaign when it secretly funded the infamous Steele dossier and pushed the false Alfa Bank conspiracy. (His fellow Perkins Coie partner, Michael Sussmann, was later indicted but acquitted).
Turley also reminded folks of how deeply involved Elias has been over the years in Democrat gerrymander efforts across the country:
In Maryland, Elias’s team supported another abusive gerrymandering scheme that a court found not only violated Maryland law but the state constitution’s equal protection, free speech and free elections clauses. The court found that the map “subverts the will of those governed.”
One media site accused Elias and his group of “making millions off gerrymandering efforts” while publicly denouncing Republican gerrymandering.
[…]
His group’s work for New York redistricting was ridiculed as not only ignoring the express will of the voters and also effectively negating the votes of Republican voters.
In 2024, the Chief Judge of the Western District of Wisconsin criticized the Elias Law Group for one of its challenges. Judge James Peterson (an Obama appointee) said that the argument “simply does not make any sense.”
Few things get the engine revving like conservative lawyer vs. leftist lawyer battles like this one, amirite?

Beyond that, though, is what Elias’ position on the ruling represents. He’s not just some fringe leftist goof like Rep. Maxine Waters (CA-43). This guy has done work for the national Democrat Party apparatus for decades on some of the most consequential election cases in modern American history.
Perhaps more than anything else Democrats have said over the last year and a half, this represents a seriously dangerous step down to the point of no return for how far they are willing to go to get their way – in effect, literally destroying this country and its sacred institutions in order to “save” it, in their view:
This is NOT just from Virginia Dems. Marc is part of the national org.
We cannot allow Dems power anywhere, or they will simply destroy our democracy.
Look where they are over one ruling. https://t.co/SBJswR8JFd

Please don’t forget this, and remember to urge your Republican friends to vote in the fall elections. It matters now more than ever.
Editor’s Note: The Democrat Party has never been less popular as voters reject its globalist agenda.
