Congressional investigators are turning the spotlight on Planned Parenthood – and whether it has used federal tax money illegally for abortion – again.
The review started about a year ago, when members of Congress requested information from the organization that in the past has gotten hundreds of millions of dollars of tax money each year.
The abortion industry leader didn’t respond.
Now those demands for details are being renewed.
U.S. Rep. Tim Burchett, R-Tenn., head of the House Oversight Subcommittee on Delivering on Government Efficiency, and Oversight Committee member Rep. Andy Biggs, R-Ariz., have sent letters to nearly a dozen separate Planned Parenthood affiliates about the organization’s refusal to cooperate.
“As of now—nearly one year later—Planned Parenthood has yet to fully comply with the Subcommittee’s letter and provide the requested documents and communications,” they wrote, according to a report from the Daily Signal.
They noted in fiscal year 2023, Planned Parenthood got some $800 million in taxpayer money.
And they warn about “commingling federal funds and using them for unpermitted purposes.”
Under Title X of the Public Health Service Act, Medicaid, and the Children’s Health Insurance Program, or CHIP, federal money cannot be used for abortion.
President Donald Trump’s “One Big, Beautiful Bill” that passed in July defunded Planned Parenthood for one year, but the funding is set to go back into place on July 4.
The letters from Burchett and Biggs went to Planned Parenthood North Central States; Planned Parenthood of Michigan; Planned Parenthood of Illinois; Planned Parenthood of Greater Ohio; Planned Parenthood of Greater New York; Planned Parenthood of Orange and San Bernardino Counties; Planned Parenthood of Southern New England; and Planned Parenthood of Maryland.
Besides addressing abortion, the letters also warned that there are concerns about the organization’s recently adopted agenda to perform mutilating transgender treatments and services on minors.
Planned Parenthood is fully dedicated to the unscientific ideology, stating on social media recently, “On International Day Against Homophobia, Transphobia, and Biphobia, we want to be clear: Your gender identity is not up for debate. You deserve the right to live freely and fully —– just as you are.”
