It’s common enough for the older generations, including crochety old Boomer coots like me, to berate the younger generations. This has been the case ever since two grizzled old men named Ig and Oog complained about the younger men not wanting to go to the other side of the hill to gather flint.
There are some sensible kids out there, even in California. One of those kids is a student at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego, who expressed a viewpoint supporting Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) – and was suspended for it.
A student at Torrey Pines High School in San Diego was suspended after posting a pro-Immigration and Customs Enforcement flyer reading, “We [heart] ICE – Real Americans,” following an anti-ICE walkout on campus, according to the Foundation for Individual Rights and Expression (FIRE).
The National Education Association, the primary national teachers union that has no more to do with education than Keith Olbermann has to do with telling the truth, is of course all in on the scam, providing big, fat cash to support ICE protests.
Student-led anti-ICE walkouts have continued to rise nationwide. In 2026 alone, more than 300 such walkouts and protests have taken place. Various organizations have led training programs within K–12 schools, and the National Education Association has provided $1.7 million in funding to a May Day 2026 training toolkit that includes anti-U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement messaging, according to an investigation by Defending Education.
Any hints of bias here, maybe?

It gets worse. According to FIRE:
“Schools cannot favor one viewpoint over another. When students express themselves non-disruptively, the First Amendment guarantees their right to freedom of speech, regardless of what opinion they share,” Conor Fitzpatrick, senior attorney at FIRE, told The Center Square.
But they do; schools have, for years now, been activist training grounds – for the left. And there’s big money in it.
Midwest Academy has received $1,735,000 since 2015. The NEA funding has supported trainings and organizing efforts that promote demonstrations calling for policies like taxing the wealthy, opposing ICE and expanding democracy, according to materials outlined in the toolkit.
At the school level, the toolkit encourages participants to stage “walk-ins,” where students and supporters gather on campus to protest or “celebrate” issues related to school conditions and public policy.
All left-wing pet causes.
The Torrey Pines High student has not been named, nor should he be. But there can be little doubt that his First Amendment rights were attacked here. Any student has the right to express himself, and while the First Amendment doesn’t require him to be provided with an audience, neither can he be arbitrarily shut up – not in the school, which receives federal funding, and is a de facto arm of government. And most especially, that student cannot be silenced when the opposite viewpoint is not only tolerated but encouraged by the teachers and the administration.
There is no direct threat in expressing a view supporting federal law enforcement, the work of a federal agency authorized by a vote in Congress. There’s no indication that this student threatened anyone, incited anyone to violence, or tried to prevent anyone else from expressing an opposing view.
Call this argument number sixteen million why the right needs to pay more attention to school board elections. In fact, the right needs to start running for these school board seats. This has been done on a limited scale in some places, but this is an effort that needs to grow legs. Some states and localities try to dodge this by having school board elections not on the regular election day, but on some other date.
We can elect politicians with good sense. But until we get control of the schools, this kind of thing will keep happening – and the left, encouraged, will crack down even more.
Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
