You can always rely on the legacy media and the leftist media (but I repeat myself) to get things wrong, either accidentally or on purpose. Or, as my kids used to say, “accidentally on purpose.”
Case in point: This X post from the Daily Beast:

There’s just one problem with that post: It’s the purest sort of the stuff one finds at the south end of a northbound mule. The Department of Homeland Security (DHS) responded and set things straight:
ICE did NOT target a child. The child was ABANDONED.
On January 20, ICE conducted a targeted operation to arrest Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias an illegal alien from Ecuador who was RELEASED into the U.S. by the Biden administration.

As agents approached the driver Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias, fled on foot—abandoning his child. For the child’s safety, one of our ICE officers remained with the child while the other officers apprehended Conejo Arias.
Parents are asked if they want to be removed with their children, or ICE will place the children with a safe person the parent designates. This is consistent with past administration’s immigration enforcement. Parents can take control of their departure and receive a free flight and $2,600 with the CBP Home app. By using the CBP Home app illegal aliens reserve the chance to come back the right legal way.
What kind of perfectly horrible person abandons their own child to flee law enforcement? This sounds like someone who shouldn’t be a parent, and we can only hope that someone involved with Child Protective Services, or whatever they call the local equivalent, is notified.

Regardless of how Adrian Alexander Conejo Arias comported himself, no matter how perfectly horrible his behavior was during this affair, we mustn’t overlook the way the Daily Beast handled it – and note that they got Community Noted into the Greater Magellanic Cloud. We can and perhaps should choose to be charitable and allow that this may have been a careless mistake, albeit a mistake that should have gotten the writer a severe dressing-down from their editor. And, for that matter, the editorial staff, who in most organizations like this, have the final pre-pub look at news and opinion pieces, well, they’re due for a dressing-down as well. I mean, just the failure to do an elementary fact-check is pretty egregious.
Of course, we can presume that this was intentional. I hate to cast aspersions on someone who is in the same line of work as I am, so I’ll just power through it: It seems, to me at least, likely that this was deliberate; the fact-check was too obvious, and any elementary look into the facts of the matter would have spoken clearly.
Heck, they could have just asked ICE what the deal was.
We’ve become accustomed to his sort of thing. This is the leftist media, whether they fit into the legacy (read that as old) media or even the leftist alternative media. Consumed with Trump Derangement Syndrome, the purveyors of this sort of nitwittery can’t be too concerned with accuracy. They have an agenda to uphold.
