Feckless Mayor Jacob Frey Attempts Comfort in Annunciation Mass Shooting, Insults People of Faith Instead – RedState

In the wake of the heartbreaking news early Wednesday of a mass shooting at Annunciation K-8 Catholic School in Minneapolis, MN, Minneapolis Mayor Jacob Frey and Police Chief Brian O’Hara gave remarks and an update on the situation. As RedState reported, there were at least 20 victims, but the shooter had been neutralized.

Mayor Frey was first to the microphone, obviously visibly upset. But he began his remarks with the correct tone of sobriety and sadness.

There are no words that can capture the horror and the evil of this unspeakable act. Children are dead (heavy sigh).

There are families that have a deceased child. You cannot put into words the gravity, the tragedy, or the absolute pain of this situation. We are a Minneapolis family. But to everybody out there, do not think of these as just somebody else’s kids. Those families are suffering immense pain right now. Think of this as if it were your own. Everyone of us needs to be wrapping our arms around these families, giving them every ounce that we can muster. These were Minneapolis families, these were American families. And the amount of pain that they are suffering right now is extraordinary.

An adept politician and a gracious human would have stopped there, comported themselves, and spoken about the ways the City of Minneapolis planned to help. But being a progressive Democrat, Frey apparently could not help himself. Frey let his anger and his progressive beliefs take over as he began to rant:

And don’t just say this is about “thoughts and prayers,” right now. These kids were literally praying! It was the first week of school, they were in a church. These are kids that should be learning with their friends. They should be playing on the playground. They should be able to go to school or church in peace, without the fear or risk of violence and their parents should have the same type of assurances. These are the sort of basic assurances that every family should have, every step of the day, regardless of where they are in this country.

WOW. Talk about too soon. What an absolute insult to the religious parents whose children were lost or the ones who are now in surgery or intensive care. As a person of faith, it is times like these when our faith is all we have to cling to find solace and comfort in the senselessness of such an act. Instead of Frey putting his personal feelings aside, he poured salt into this community’s wounds by insulting the very faith and avenues they held dear. It’s a terrible look for someone wanting to be reelected as mayor.

I believe Frey realized he had gone too far with that statement because there was a long pause, and he was breathy with frustration. He then managed to compose himself and re-direct his comments back to compassion, rather than lecturing… sort of.

I’m so deeply saddened and I’m so sorry to the families that I know are suffering right now. My ask is to everyone is to stand by them. Love them. These families have forever been changed and we’ve all been changed with them. We need to do everything possible to support them at this time. We have a family resource center that has been set up.

Frey was “Mr. Defund the Police” in the midst of the 2020 George Floyd riots when he allowed the violence and his city to burn down. Apparently, he has had a change of heart, as he moved to thank the law enforcement who responded quickly to this terrible situation.

I am grateful for all of the law enforcement agencies from a number of different jurisdictions, all the different departmental support that we’ve received that are going to be working tirelessly. There’s also a family resource center that is being set up as we speak to make sure that we’re there for everybody. Again, to the families that are suffering, to those who have experience loss, I am so deeply sorry. We’re going to be with you every step of the way. We love you. This kind of act of evil should never happen, and it happens far to often. The Chief will provide additional details.

WATCH:

Frey is already in a tight race with Democrat Socialist Omar Fateh. His response to this tragedy will no doubt work against him, even with the choice being a lesser of two evils.

Frey quickly stepped away, and Chief O’Hara took the microphone to give further details and respond to questions. O’Hara updated that the shooter entered the worship service through a side door and fired his rifle toward the church windows, striking the children and other worshippers.

Chief O’Hara revealed that the shooter was armed with a rifle, a shotgun, and a pistol. A total of 20 people were shot, including the shooter. Two children, ages 8 and 10, have died. Seventeen other people were injured, 14 of them being children. Two of those children are in critical condition.

O’Hara soberly reflected, “This was a deliberate act of violence against innocent children and other people worshipping[…]  The sheer cruelty and cowardice of firing into a church full of children is absolutely incomprehensible.”

O’Hara confirmed that the shooter extinguished himself. “The coward who fired these shots ultimately took his own life in the rear of the church.”

This is a developing story. Please stay tuned to RedState for updates, and keep the victims and their families in your prayers.
