Kamala Harris said the quiet part out loud.
During a late February conversation with AFT President Randi Weingarten, the former vice president openly praised activists in Minneapolis who were interfering with Immigration and Customs Enforcement operations. Not cautiously. Not carefully. Enthusiastically.

Her words about Minneapolis were not vague. They were direct.
“In Minneapolis, just look at what we’ve been seeing. It’s so fantastic. People coming out with their whistles, they’re videotaping. And, you know, with perfect strangers and aiding Perfect Strangers, it’s been so beautiful to see.”
Those whistles are used to alert neighborhoods when ICE agents are present and to mobilize people specifically to confront enforcement activity. They do not calm situations. They make them more dangerous.
That puts federal agents in harm’s way.
ICE officers and Border Patrol agents execute lawful orders authorized by Congress and federal courts. When crowds are intentionally summoned to interfere, the risk of confrontation rises sharply.
Minneapolis is not theoretical ground. The city has already been the site of deadly encounters tied to immigration enforcement, including the fatal shootings of Renee Good and Alex Pretti during ICE and Border Patrol activity, which ultimately led to the end of Operation Metro Surge. These operations carry real risk before activists insert themselves into the middle of them.
And yet Harris, a potential 2028 Democrat presidential candidate, framed disruption as something uplifting.
“When people band together, and we remember the strength of community, and we remember the strength of coalition and the power in, you know, it’s cliche, the power in the numbers, right?”
There is a clear line between documenting law enforcement activity and organizing interference with it. Harris crossed it. She wasn’t describing observation. She was praising mobilization.
She made that crystal clear moments later.
“The power of numbers… we teach that to kids, right?”
That is not a throwaway line. It is an endorsement of crowd leverage against federal enforcement.
This is not a one-off remark. Harris has previously aligned herself against deportation policy outright, including chanting “Up, up with education. Down, down with deportation” at a public event. The through line is consistent.
That position places her well to the left of much of the country. Americans may debate reform, but support for enforcement itself remains. Polling has consistently shown a majority backing for deporting individuals who are in the country illegally, particularly those with criminal records.

Federal agents already operate under intense scrutiny. They already face hostility in the field. Encouraging organized disruption increases the likelihood that lawful operations become flashpoints. It increases the odds that someone gets hurt.
Leadership requires judgment. It requires restraint. It requires an understanding that words have consequences.
Harris chose to applaud interference and disruption of federal law enforcement.
Imagine that mindset directing the very agencies she is cheering against.
Voters did.
