The “No Kings” movement of 2025 in the U.S. was meant to protest what anti-Trump participants see as unlawful or authoritarian actions by the 47th president.
But the appearance of that message this week in the sky above Davos, Switzerland, site of the World Economic Forum’s yearly meeting, gave fuel to professional mockers online who pointed out that seven nations in the NATO bloc have actual kings, with crowns and thrones and all the rest.
Ironically, a “No Kings” X account touts as its description: “No crowns. No thrones. No kings. Fighting GOP overreach, oligarchy & power grabs. Join the stand.”
Quick reminder that Denmark, Belgium, Spain, Netherlands, Norway, Spain and the UK all LITERALLY STILL HAVE KINGS RIGHT NOW. pic.twitter.com/8bbAHJr6Ss

The U.S., on the other hand, has never had a king, and the constitutional checks and balances prevent a president from taking on dictatorial or monarchical powers.
Here’s a spattering of reactions.
@grok can you confirm there are seven kings in Europe today? Did any of them comment on the “No Kings” display in Davos this week? Was King Frederik X of Denmark frustrated by the attack on his profession?

NO KINGS!*
*only applies to democratically elected Donald Trump, not NATO states with active monarchies

Thanks, Davos, for supporting the free people of the USA from the exploitation of the Kingdom of Denmark.
