2026 is already shaping up to be a banner year for the United States, as Americans celebrate the country’s 250th birthday and on Friday, President Trump announced during an Oval Office executive order signing ceremony that it will have a connection to where the next G20 conference will take place.

“It’s going to be a very exciting thing to host the G20 and, as we celebrate our nation’s 250th anniversary next year, the United States will have the honor of hosting exactly that,” he said, noting that it was “the first time in nearly 20 years” since the summit has been held on U.S. soil.
“This afternoon, I’m thrilled to announce that the 2026 G20 conference…will be held on one of our country’s greatest cities, beautiful Miami, Florida,” he continued.

The mayor of Miami, Francis Suarez, was on hand at the White House for the big reveal, and made some remarks:

In his remarks, Suarez noted that Pres. Trump was “the Republican president in over 30 years to win Miami-Dade county,” then thanked the president “on behalf of all of the workers of Miami, those who work in the hospitality industry…all of the small business owners, who are going to benefit economically from having the G20 in Miami.”
Trump agreed, saying it would be a “tremendous, tremendous benefit. It’s going to bring in millions and millions of dollars.”
Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent, whom the president has tasked with setting up the agenda of the conference, also spoke about taking the summit “back to basics,” compared to the bloated state it became under former President Biden:
.@SecScottBessent on the 2026 G20 in Miami: “President Trump’s America First initiative does not mean America alone, it means America leads… It will be a concentrated group in Miami seeing the best America has to offer with American leadership thanks to President Trump.” pic.twitter.com/e1zzpFfNHF

“Just as the president was saying earlier,” Bessent said, referring to the official name change, “about the Defense/Department of War, the U.S. is back on the international stage as a leader. We have whittled down the G20 back to basics…The G20 had basically become the G100 in this past year.”
