As we reported, President Donald Trump said he was in talks with the Iranians about ending the military action with them. He said he was putting off the threat of retaliation against power plants for five days because the talks had been going well.
Trump gave some more details on how he thought the talks were going. But when questioned about who he was talking with, he was coy.
“Don’t forget: We’ve wiped out the leadership phase one, phase two, and largely phase three. But we’re dealing with a man who I believe is the most respected and the leader, you know, it’s a little tough, they’ve wiped out — we’ve wiped out everybody,” he added.
He did note, however, that it was not the alleged “Supreme Leader,” Moqtaba Khamenei, the guy we have come to know as their invisible cardboard leader. Moqtaba hasn’t been seen since the start of the war, and it’s not even clear he’s alive. So he would be a bit hard to deal with.
The Iranians were denying reports of direct talks. But they haven’t exactly been the most honest brokers, as we’ve seen. They attack their neighbors and claim they aren’t attacking them in the next breath. And it benefits their position to deny talks to keep the markets in drama, to appear like they’re being tough.
Trump Calls Off Iran Strikes: Says Mullahs Seeking Resolution After Feeling the Heat
But who the mysterious leader is may have already leaked out.
The Trump administration is in talks with Iran’s parliament speaker to try to end the war, according to a new report.
Mohammad Baqher Ghalibaf, who threatened mass retaliation against energy facilities across the Middle East in the face of President Trump’s ultimatum over the weekend, is the “top person” speaking with the US whom the president mentioned on Monday, the Jerusalem Post reported.
Ghalibaf is a hardliner. But, of course, pretty much everyone is in the Iranian regime, and so many of them have already been taken out. I’m guessing that one of the reasons Ghalibaf is talking now is that he doesn’t want to join that list, and he sees they’re running out of options. They have threats against the Strait and propaganda. But if Iran actually retaliated against the energy facilities across the Gulf States as Ghalibaf threatened, that would probably draw the UAE, Saudi Arabia, and others into joining militarily against them. The Gulf States are already thinking along those lines, and now believe Iran poses a grave threat to them.

Iran’s Attack on Gulf States Is Coming Back to Bite Them Big Time
Ghalibaf also has a past connection to the Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corps, so he may be able to marry the various factions necessary to be able to sign on to a deal. He is one of the main people in charge now.
Meanwhile, Trump is giving them five days. Which means the markets go up now, and either they come across or he starts pounding them into the dust next weekend and making some major moves they’re not going to be happy with. He’s playing strategy, and they’re getting clobbered. So they don’t have a lot of time to make up their minds.
Editor’s Note: For decades, former presidents have been all talk and no action. Now, Donald Trump is eliminating the threat from Iran once and for all.
