Most rational Americans watched in utter disbelief earlier this year as independent journalist Nick Shirley began to unravel layer upon layer of massive amounts of fraud being perpetrated in Minnesota by Somali immigrants, with Democrat elected officials seemingly turning a blind eye to taxpayers being fleeced out of billions of dollars. Traditionally, the idea is that immigrants want to come to America the legal way, be willing to work hard, and become part of American society. But what do you do when one group appears to have no intention of doing that? The answer to that may be in the offing.

On Tuesday, Texas Rep. Brandon Gill (R-26) introduced a bill that would place a 25-year moratorium on any immigration from Somalia. Gill cited the obvious failure of many in the Somali immigrant community to assimilate, along with the ongoing revelations of fraud and abuse of numerous federal benefits programs. In a written statement, Gill said of the Somalia Immigration Moratorium Act:
Mass Somali immigration makes the United States weaker, poorer and erodes social trust. The sole aim of our immigration system is to benefit American citizens, not facilitate mass migration from corrupt, failed societies. The recent fraud scandal in Minnesota highlights the acute dangers of unchecked immigration. A Somalia immigration moratorium puts the American people first, restores our national sovereignty, protects taxpayers and supports public safety.
Gill’s legislation would amend section 212 of the Immigration and Nationality Act, which would bar immigration by Somali citizens for those 25 years, while maintaining lawful status and American treaty obligations. The bill would also be compatible with several proclamations and an executive order issued by President Donald Trump. The bill would codify the February 2, 2026, proclamation and would not affect anyone in the country before the bill is enacted, nor would it apply to lawful permanent residents, diplomatic, or international organizational visas.
🚨JUST IN: President Trump just posted a HUGE list of immigrant welfare recipient rates by country of origin. Somali ranks THIRD at a rate of 71.9%!

There’s thousands of law-abiding Americans out there that actually need this assistance, yet our government is more interested in pandering to foreigners who hate us.
In the wake of an estimated nine billion dollars of fraud and abuse committed at the hands of many Somali immigrants in connection with several state-distributed federal programs, some disturbing statistics have also come to light, making the argument for Gill’s legislation a good one. According to the Center for Immigration Studies, 81 percent of Somali immigrant households are on welfare, 73 percent of Somali immigrants are on Medicaid, and 54 percent are on the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), otherwise known as food stamps. Add to that, around 39 percent of working-age Somali immigrants have no high school diploma, and half of those who have lived in the U.S. for more than ten years do not speak English “very well.” Some assimilation.

It’s a given that Democrats would not back such a bill. They will do what they always do, pull out the ragged, tired race card. But would there be enough House Republicans with a spine that would sign on to Gill’s bill? Senate Republicans have danced around the idea. In November of 2025, Texas GOP Sens. Ted Cruz and John Cornyn introduced legislation that would make defrauding the federal government a deportable offense, but how about slamming the door on those who are coming here to commit the fraud before they ever get here?
Is there a correlation between the number of Somali immigrants who show up on America’s doorstep and then expect to be supported by taxpayers, be able to commit fraud with impunity, or both? You do the math.
80% of Somalis in Minnesota are on welfare. They’re not coming here to live the American dream, they’re coming here for free stuff. pic.twitter.com/qYUPaPQSq2
