Theater Puts Hysterical Trigger Warning on ‘Dracula’—and It’s Just the Beginning – RedState

You know the saying, “Go Woke, Go Broke”?

Well, apparently, those at the Lyric Theatre in Hammersmith, London, don’t and have decided to change Bram Stoker’s Dracula play, including issuing the longest trigger-warning ever to audience members because of many things, including that there’s blood.

Yes, you read that correctly. Those in charge at the theater don’t want to upset their apparently delicate audience and have tried to head off any problems before the show, the Daily Mail reported.

And that entails a laughable trigger warning that reads:

‘Morgan Lloyd Malcolm’s Dracula – based on the novel by Bram Stoker – contains themes of gender-based violence, including visual allusions to sexual assault; death, including of children; blood; abduction; depictions of grief and distress following trauma; the use of weapons; and reference to hanging.’

But wait, there’s more, because the theater let audience-goers know that the production also includes “language and scenes that may impact some audience members.”

In addition, the theater will be providing a handout with information about a mental health charity for those who are bothered by what they witness in the show, the outlet noted.

And despite the description that the new production is based on the 1897 Bram Stoker novel, there’s a bit of a twist for the upcoming show, per Variety.

The report said that it will be “a female-driven” revival of the epic horror. “Female-driven”? What does that even mean?

London’s Lyric Hammersmith Theatre has unveiled casting for its upcoming production of “Dracula,” a new adaptation of Bram Stoker’s horror classic.

The adaptation comes from playwright Morgan Lloyd Malcolm (“Emilia,” “The Wasp”) and will be directed by Emma Baggott (“A Taste of Honey”). The production aims to uncover the female voices at the heart of the tale, with the story told through the perspective of Mina Harker as the sole survivor of the tragic events. The only survivor of the tragic events chronicled in the famous letters, Mina recounts her version of Dracula’s journey from Transylvania to London. Alongside trusted allies, and in memory of her beloved friend Lucy, they scramble to piece together the truth of his monstrous desires.

“There is a timeless obsession with Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ which has been so exciting to dig into so far, and I can’t wait to work with Emma and our incredible cast and team to bring it to the stage,” Malcolm said. “Horror has long been a genre I’ve loved, and to be able to explore this classic story within the context of the scary times we’re living through has felt particularly important and exciting.”

The Daily Mail also pointed out that this wasn’t the first time a theater in London did something so ridiculous.

It read:

The trigger warning on Dracula follows one on Hamlet at the National Theatre in London, where audiences were alerted to ‘coercive behavior’ in the play.

Shakespearean actor Brian Blessed, 88, hit out at theatre bosses as ‘ignorant pigs’, saying: ‘It’s [***] Shakespeare… the greatest writer on the planet.’
