Truly ‘miraculous’ news surfaced late on Friday about one of the two West Virginia National Guard members who were shot in a terrorist attack ambush in Washington, D.C., ahead of the Thanksgiving holiday.
In a press release, MedStar Washington Hospital Center said it wanted to share an “important update regarding National Guard Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe, provided by his neurosurgeon and his family.”
Wolfe was nearly killed in the terrorist attack by an Afghan national, which left one other guard member, Sarah Beckstrom, dead.

Neurosurgeon Jeffrey Mai, MD, shared the following in his statement:
“Sixteen days ago, Staff Sgt. Andrew Wolfe was airlifted to MedStar Washington Hospital Center with a critical gunshot wound to the head. Thanks to the immediate response of emergency personnel and the exceptional care provided by our trauma and neurosurgery teams, he received lifesaving treatment, including emergency surgery to control bleeding and relieve pressure on his brain.”
“Today, we are proud to share that Staff Sgt. Wolfe has made extraordinary progress,” Mai said. “He is now breathing on his own and can stand with assistance-important milestones that reflect his strength and determination. Based on these improvements, he is now ready to transition from acute care to inpatient rehabilitation as the next step in his recovery journey.”
“We extend our deepest gratitude to our dedicated physicians, nurses, and support staff who cared for him every step of the way, and to his family for their unwavering love and encouragement,” he added. “While this remains an early phase of healing, his progress gives us every reason to feel hopeful about what lies ahead.”
The release also included a statement from Andrew’s parents, Melody and Jason Wolfe, explaining how truly grateful they are to the entire staff, nurses, and doctors for the remarkable care. They told the family, “Andy’s progress is miraculous.”
It read:
We also want to thank the world for the prayers. We know and appreciate the power of prayer, and we see the result of God working with and through these amazing medical professionals. People around the world are praying for Andy, and the presence of God was evident in his room on many occasions.
Please continue to lift Andy up in prayer as he begins a long and tough rehabilitation. We know he will continue to improve at a rapid pace, and know your prayers are making the difference. Please continue as God heals Andrew and gives him the strength to return to work, the West Virginia National Guard, and his new mission of being a light into this world.
They went on to praise the extraordinary support they’ve received from Andy’s military family, his hometown community, and people across the nation.
“From the members of his unit to leaders at both the state and federal levels, the response has been heartfelt,” the statement read. “President Donald Trump, Governor Patrick Morrisey, Senators Shelley Moore Capito and Jim Justice, Congresswoman Carol Miller and Congressman Riley Moore have each shown genuine care and have played an important role in ensuring Andy receives the best possible care and that his prayer request is widely known.”
The press release also shared that the family has “chosen not to disclose the location of his rehabilitation.”

The incredible news comes after President Trump got everyone’s attention during his speech in Pennsylvania on Tuesday, when he announced that he had just gotten an update from Andrew’s mother before the speech, as RedState reported.

“And today, I got a call that he [Andrew] got up from bed. Do you believe that? He got up,” Trump said, as the crowd roared with cheers and applause. “Now he didn’t speak. He’s not ready for that yet…but he got up and boy, they’re [his parents] so happy. It’s amazing…Andrew stood up today, and people can’t even believe it, so… let’s hope it continues.”
The news that Andrew is ready for rehab is truly a miracle given it was less than 12 days ago we got an update from West Virginia Republican Governor Patrick Morrisey that Andrew had responded to a nurse who asked him a question, but was still fighting for his life, as RedState reported.
