Those television shows featuring LGBT characters are being canceled right and left, and that means nearly half of all LGBT characters will be disappearing from television next season, a Protestia report revealed.

The confirmation actually comes from GLAAD, a high-profile LGBT lobbying group.

Among those departing will be 61% of transgender characters, the report said.

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation said across primetime broadcasts, primetime cable and more, during the time period ending this summer there were 489 LGBT characters.

That’s up slightly from the earlier year, but the report notes what’s coming turns the other direction.

“GLAAD found that a big reason for the loss of characters is series cancellations. Rather than a character exiting a show organically, the shows with LGBTQ characters are simply ending,” the report said.

Protestia explained, “Several X accounts posted this news as a positive for America. On Sunday evening, Libs of Tik Tok shared, ‘I love some good news to start the week!’ Steve Deace of the Blaze posted, ‘Finally, some good news.’”

The trend was linked by some to the 2024 presidential election, which rejected the extreme LGBT advocacy of the Joe Biden administration, through failed Democrat candidate Kamala Harris.

Jack Posobiec from Turning Point USA, for example, said, “I voted for this.”

The Wrap reported GLAAD’s Megan Townsend was concerned, stating, “There is a definite concern that it’s not going to bounce back next year and see a growth just in terms of what’s been announced up to this moment. We have not had a ton of announcements or news about new series and returning series within the research period that would make up for some of these losses.”

The Trump administration, in fact, announced the federal government would recognize only those who are male or female, not dozens of genders, and the report noted of 33 transgender characters on television this year, only four are on series that officially have been renewed.
