Abdul El-Sayed, the Muslim Democrat running for U.S. Senate in Michigan, is being hammered online for saying males in the bathrooms or locker rooms of females is not really a concern because people can already see such images on the internet.
His Republican opponent, Mike Rogers, shared a video clip from “60 Minutes” on Sunday, as CBS correspondent Ross Douthat asked the Democrat: “What happens with transgender kids on sports teams and so on? These are places where rights are in conflict. What do you think happens there?”
El-Sayed responded: “I don’t know that that’s actually true. I think we manufacture these social issues.”
“You have a phone in your pocket. You can get access to everything and anything in the whole world, all the world’s information in your pocket.”
He continued: “The notion somehow that you are going to prevent your child from being exposed to something that you may find disagreeable and that that is going to be because of school is so profoundly outdated.”
“The free flow of information is actually a beautiful thing. It’s really important, and the most important thing you can do is not try to protect a person from seeing a thing.”

Rogers said of the interview: “Abdul El-Sayed says it’s ok for MEN to be in girl’s locker rooms. Why? ‘Well because they are going to find out about it on the internet anyway.’ Completely unacceptable.”
Rogers was joined in his condemnation by U.S. Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., who is a victim of rape.
“No. You actually should do everything humanly possible to protect your children,” Mace said.
Journalist Eric Daugherty said of El-Sayed’s stance, “This is batsh*t crazy.”
Others reacted harshly as well, saying:
“This is possibly the worst answer I’ve ever heard of this question.”
“‘Your girls will see a penis on the internet anyway, so they might as well just see it up close in a locker room?’ Is that SERIOUSLY his argument? As a dad of a teenage girl … this is actually an EVIL thing to say.”
