Democrat Rep. Pramila Jayapal (WA-7) is getting torched for openly betraying American interests, brazenly admitting in a viral clip that she has been working with Mexican and other foreign officials to sneak oil into Communist Cuba.
This is an unbridled admission to directly undermining President Trump’s sanctions on a regime deeply tied to Russia, Iran, and other American adversaries.
Jayapal’s admission, seen in a viral video clip circulating on social media, exposes a brazen effort to circumvent American foreign policy and prop up a brutal dictatorship. Her excuse? Claiming Trump’s economic sanctions, effectively an aggressive oil blockade, are “illegal” and “cruel.”
“I was in conversations with the ambassadors from Mexico and some other places … trying to figure out how to get oil there,” Jayapal said in a briefing in Seattle following a congressional delegation trip to Cuba. “It is a crisis beyond imagination.”
Imagine that. Colluding with foreign nations to the benefit of Cuba, Russia, and Iran.

Why Did Far-Left Democrats Make a Secret ‘Human Rights’ Trip to Communist Cuba?
The backlash against Jayapal has been explosive and unrelenting, with prominent conservative voices and politicians branding her actions as outright treason. Spicy allegations for sure, but how else to frame a United States congresswoman confessing to working with foreign powers against the President of the United States?
“This is what a traitor does,” wrote popular political commentator Chad Prather.
Turning Point USA Spokesman Andrew Kolvet responded, “Traitor. She should be prosecuted.”
Several commentators referenced the Logan Act in their criticism of Jayapal. Senator Mike Lee (R-UT) suggested that, independent of that argument, her claims are gross.
“Setting aside the Logan Act (which is itself problematic and essentially never enforced), there’s something wrong with a member of Congress actively working to undermine the application of U.S. law against a foreign adversary,” he said.

Jayapal brushed off the firestorm with a post of her own: “Breaking news: Members of Congress meet with ambassadors of other countries every day. That’s literally our right and responsibility.”
The Logan Act is often discussed in circumstances like this. It prohibits citizens from engaging foreign powers in contravention of the United States. John Kerry was almost certainly in violation when, as an outsider, he colluded with Iran to undermine President Trump’s first-term foreign policy. That said, members of Congress are often given leeway for engaging in discussions with foreign officials.
Not to mention, it’s practically inconsequential in real-world applications.
“There has never been a conviction under it — in fact, there have only been two indictments, the last one about 174 years ago,” said former federal prosecutor Andrew McCarthy.
A sitting U.S. Representative actively working with foreign governments to undermine that policy and sustain the regime, however, surely crosses into undermining American interests. It signals to allies and adversaries that American foreign policy can be subverted from within Congress.
Members swear an oath to support and defend the Constitution and implicitly advance U.S. interests. Lobbying against your own country’s sanctions while in office, especially by colluding with foreign actors, may not be provable treason, but it is definitely disloyal to the nation. It is unethical.
