Forget an October surprise.
Now we have a monumental November surprise that has triggered a political earthquake in the Michigan U.S. Senate race that could determine which party controls the chamber in Congress.
U.S. Rep. Haley Stevens, D-Mich., a Christian who lost to Democrat Abdul El-Sayed in the primary, on Sunday pulled her endorsement of her Muslim colleague and instead endorsed Republican candidate Mike Rogers.
“Hey Michigan,” Stevens said in a video recorded in her car, “as you may have seen, our Democratic nominee for U.S. Senate Abdul said that I was no longer welcome in his campaign and that I should stay away. And he’s right.”
“And that’s why I am endorsing Mike Rogers for the United States Senate today. I don’t belong in Abdul’s campaign. I do not stand with Hasan Piker who gets trafficked on our college campuses.
“A dear friend of mine earlier today was saying that education is on the ballot, and she’s absolutely right. And what our students see, what our children see and who we are as Michiganders is not hate and is not what were are getting out from our Democratic nominee right now.”
Stevens stressed she is “just one person.”
“I’m still a very proud Democrat. I still very much believe in everything I voted for and said,” she explained. I’ve worked really hard and will continue to do so in all the ways life’s opportunities afford. Godspeed and love you all so much.”

Stevens actually attended church with the Republican Rogers on Sunday, and said afterward, “We have to stand with country. We can’t stand with hate. We can’t stand with Hasan Piker.”

“The ballot box is still very personal and private. … All I can do is lead with love and integrity.”

Rogers told reporters: “I’m honored to have Haley Stevens support today. I’m honored to have earned that vote.”
“This is more a statement about standing together against hate and the future of this state and this country than it is anything else.”
He added: “There is a chorus of Democrats around this state who say Abdul is too extreme.”
El-Sayed on Sunday indcated he was “a lot more focused” on issues, as he urged reporters not ask him questions about Stevens endorsing Rogers.
“If you want to ask me some questions about intrigue and about two folks who aren’t here right now, I’m going to be less interested in answering.”

President Donald Trump said: “Wow, this is BIG! Congresswoman Haley Stevens, a Highly Respected Democrat, who narrowly lost in the Primary to Abdul Mohamed El-Sayed, and who has been breathlessly wined and dined by the Dumocrats to help in their Michigan Campaign for the United States Senate against Mike Rogers, has just ENDORSED Mike Rogers for Senate!
“Her following is huge, and the level of respect from the People of Michigan, especially our African American and Jewish populations, is virtually unparalleled. Haley said what few people are willing to say. She showed great and almost unprecedented loyalty to the Great People of Michigan with what she did. It’s a thing called bravery, and few people have it like just displayed by Congresswoman Haley Stevens!”
This past week, Stevens’ fiancé Jason Turkish announced he was going to vote for Rogers, while Haley was still on Team Dem.
“Her only ask, small ask, was to say that we not balm all of society’s high costs on one group of people [the Jews],” he told “Fox & Friends” on Saturday.
“It puts Jews at risk. and my phone has just rung off the hook for days and days now with Jewish friends and family members in Michigan and beyond around the world just besides themselves that it has come to this.”
“We have a nominee who just won’t say this is wrong.”
