Rep. Chip Roy Introduces Bill to Keep American Homes Out of the Hands of America’s Foes – RedState

As President Donald Trump continues to repair the devastation that the four years of Joe Biden and his open borders policy did to the nation, we keep discovering more side effects from allowing millions of illegal immigrants and other entities not friendly to the U.S. from foreign nations into the country.

One of those side effects is the fact that many of those who entered the country came from places that are not friends of the U.S., and bought homes or large tracts of land. But a new bill would take home-buying in America out of foreign hands.

The Daily Caller exclusively reported on Tuesday that Texas Rep. Chip Roy (R-TX-21) introduced a bill that would ban any foreign adversaries from buying American homes. Specifically, the bill would prohibit those foreign adversaries, nationals from countries of concern, and any countries designated as state sponsors of terrorism from buying a home in the U.S. The bill also states that divestment of all housing is mandated two years after the bill becomes law, and must be sold to a U.S. citizen.

In a statement, Roy said:

“American homes belong to American families — not the Chinese Communist Party, foreign Islamists, or our geopolitical foes. While Americans struggle to afford housing, hostile regimes are buying up our land and neighborhoods. This bill slams the door on foreign adversaries owning American housing and forces them to sell what they already control. We’re putting America’s homes back in American hands.”

Foreign ownership of American land has become an increasingly concerning issue. At the end of 2024, a report from the U.S. Department of Agriculture (USDA) showed that 46 million acres of land worth over $86 billion were in the hands of foreign ownership. If Roy’s bill becomes law, nearly 338,000 acres of that land owned by unfriendly foreign interests would qualify for divestiture, adding up to around $1.1billion in property.

Chip Roy has good reason to introduce this bill. His state of Texas is among those with the highest rates of foreign ownership, with 5.6 million acres owned by non-citizens. If Roy’s bill passes, 20 counties in Texas could qualify for 124,000 divested acres. One of the biggest culprits of foreign land ownership is China. It has been a growing concern for Republicans. There are 342 acres in Texas zoned for residential and commercial development, 70 percent of which is owned by Chinese Communist Party (CCP) investors. Another 123,000 acres spread across 15 counties in Texas, valued at roughly $900 million, could be linked to Chinese ownership.

Foreign ownership of U.S. land is not a new issue, and raises real national security concerns, especially near military installations. In 2023, North Dakota lawmakers prevented a Chinese-owned corn mill company from building near Grand Forks Air Force Base. Sen. Roger Marshall (R-KS) has also raised concerns recently about Chinese-owned land near Fort Riley, Kansas.

It is unknown how much support Rep. Roy’s bill has. But the American Dream of owning a home is called the American Dream for a reason.

Editor’s Note: Thanks to President Trump, illegal immigration into our great country has virtually stopped. Despite the radical left’s lies, new legislation wasn’t needed to secure our border, just a new president.
