During Press Celebration Week, the Most Exclusive Party in DC Keeps Most of the Press Away – RedState

Saturday night is the infamous White House Correspondents’ Association Awards Dinner. The exasperating press will be celebrating themselves effusively, pretending to be self-deprecating by referring to it as the “Nerd Prom,” all while stocks of rented tuxedos run low and more selfies will be taken than seen during a sorority wine festival.

As part of this annual flock of front-facing personalities to the area’s restaurants, eateries, and (oddly) various embassies is a string of seemingly endless parties. Many personalities have been spending the week desperate to get into the dozens of events held throughout the district, and this is another case of false modesty on display. They clamor to get on the guest list and then, once inside, behave as if it is all a compulsory bother to be in attendance.

The big news regarding this year’s WHCA event is who the guest of prominence is. No, I am not talking about the celebrity emcee of the gala; this year, they chose Oz Perlman, a “Mentalist.” This is a guy who claims to have special cerebral skills and can guess what people are thinking, as he pretends he is not an illusionist.

Mentalist Oz Pearlman is preparing to host the White House Correspondents’ Dinner for the first time, calling it a “career-defining moment.” Pearlman sits down with ABC News’ Jonathan Karl to discuss President Trump’s expected attendance, staying non-partisan and how he’s gearing up to create an evening which he calls “incredibly memorable.”

So they have someone posturing falsely about what he is presenting, to a room full of people pretending they abhor misinformation. How apt.

No, Oz is not the main draw this year. It turns out, for the first time in all of his years in the White House, President Trump has deigned to join the reportorial rabble at their conceited cotillion, and this has bothered a fair portion of those in their vocation.

So, on the night when they are posturing about how important it is to promote free expression, they are in a snit that the president may have a voice at their journalism hoedown. Hilarious. But as they are getting their boxers in a knot, there is another amusing detail taking place.

According to Politico, the most sought-after invite of the week concerns not a bacchanalia put on by a news outlet, but the one held by those in the administration. At the private club owned by Donald Trump Jr., The Executive Branch, it is said that interest has been remarkable.

The place has a capacity of 275, but according to Politico, the requests for tickets have been four times that total. This is largely due to Nelly being the featured performer on Friday night. The guest list is populated with those from the administration, as well as a number of top-flight business professionals. This bash, begun last year, has, humorously, excluded the media.

But that has changed — somewhat. This year, members of the press are included, but this inclusion, too, is rather exclusive. Said the source Politico spoke with, “Only non-fake news is allowed in.”

So, on the week when the media figures are preening like the homecoming monarchs, and carping about the president crashing their party, the biggest bash in town involves that same accursed figure, and most of them are not even able to get in.

You have to love the journalists trying to say “You can’t sit with us!” at the cafeteria table, while the allegedly blackballed figure steps into the 5-star restaurant he owns right next door.
